I no longer have active sync 4.0 working for my Pocket pc 6700 due to a hard
drive failure. Can I simply install the latest version of active sync
without worrying about losing my content on my phone and Outlook 2003?

Hi,

If you not using Windows Vista you can install and use ActiveSync 4.5.
Otherwise you will need to install WMDC -
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/devicecenter.mspx. Inbox sync is
one-way so if you have the copies in Outlook you don't have anything to
worry since they will get sync'd to the phone again but if the e-mails are
only on your device and you need them, then you will need to recover it
using another software. The remaining content should sync fine without loss
of data. But as always recommended to keep a backup.

Thanks for the information. I thought that it was simply another install but
wanted to make sure. I had a backup but was on the road and I created new
documents but did not receive emails on the device while on the road. My
documents should still reside on the pocket pc as should the tasks, is this
correct?

Hi,

Yes, upon creation of a fresh partnership if you select those information
types as items to sync, then the task would get combined and you would be
presented with option to Combine or Replace for the Files. You would need
to select Combine to ensure the Files on the device are not replaced.
