Well, it's pretty simple.
If you have a dead motherboard, you first check it for optical
signs (like bad caps or burned parts). Then you replace the CPU.
If it still doesn't function, it's either the motherboard or one
of the chips failing. Who cares ? The 'solution' is the same.
By the way: there is a 'paper solution'. It's called a POST card.
It shows at what stage the system fails. From that, you can often
deduct which chip is failing. (And then, you toss the board
