Needed to re-install the download manager to fix a problem - unfortunately I
missed unchecking an opt out button and now Speedbit has hijacked my IE

Please can anyone tell me how to remove this virus?

Someone here had a bit of trouble.

The advice there, isn't exactly helpful. You could
try Revo Uninstaller, but I don't know if it's optimal
for this sort of program.

The thing is, if you do a Google search, a few of the hits
want you to believe the Add/Remove uninstall works. But it
doesn't clean up after the thing. Portions of it can still
be resident.

Someone posted a reference to this one recently...

I'd be happier using that, if it came with a list of
what it cleaned. Note that, as usual with sites like that,
it's sprinkled with "Download" buttons, and only one of the
buttons is the real download link (boo, hiss).

I thought this review was humorous. Brutally honest :-)

"Cannot be removed, hides itself, then comes back"

     Version: SpeedBit Video Downloader 3.1

Pros - None, garbage browser hijacker add-on ware.

Cons - Can't remember where I downloaded DAP, but was
careless to not uncheck speedbit.com. This add on-suck ware
has implanted itself on my pc, despite much research and many
attempts, this speedbit.com bug will not go away. The manufacture
actually sent me instructions on how to get rid of it, which
did not work. More wasted time and frustration with this browser
hijacker. Who knows what harm they are doing with this permanently
           implanted bug.

Another happy customer.

If you had a System Restore point, that might be one way to clean it up.
That is, if a Restore Point was set, before the installation took place.

The link you gave looks like it would have been more helpful than the ones I
found - I did a system restore in the end.
