I have a dell poweredge sc420. The machine had been working fine for
around 2 years and then up and quit here about 3 weeks ago. The
problem i am having is when i fire it up no vide is displayed. I can
hear the monitor click like it wants to bring video up but then nothing
happens. I have removed all RAM and all pci/agp cards as well as hard
drives from the machine accept for the video card with the same result.
I tried a different video card with the same result. I also tried
reseating the cpu just in case, but that didn't resolve the issue
either. Anyone have any ideas as to the problem here?
Thanks for the help in advance.

Thanks again fror the response and the suggestion. It must be the
motherboard as the power supply yields the same results. Do you know
what a good motherboard replacement would be for this machien if i were
to go to newegg to buy one? I am not running the celeron option i
remember. I think it is a 2.8ghz p4 if i remember right. I don't know
if i need to stick with the same chipset or not or if this processor
could be put into any new motherboard? Any ideas?
Thanks again for the help.
Re: SC420 no Video
You sure the original power supply is a standard one ?
Dunno, Dells can be a bit strange, dunno about that one, sounds like its not too
They tend to use Intel motherboards quite a bit of the time.
You may well have a problem with the recovery system
if its not the same chipset. With systems that come with
a standard XP CD you can do a repair install when the
motherboard doesnt use the same chipset but you cant
with most recovery systems.
Its one of those situations where a new system may make more sense now.
