Sata drive problem

A friend has a networked HP PC which has missing system files when vista (64
bit) tries to boot. There is a similar networked HP PC working which
contains a single SATA drive. I connected the drive from the non booting PC
to the working PC with the hope of copying the missing file across manually.

PC reconised the drive showing two drives and then came up with a message
press Control N to enter raid setup (I did not enter the raid setup). The PC
booted into windows but froze before the desktop icons appeared. The amber
light was busy all the time. I had to power off PC to shutdown.

Disconnected drive and rebooted good PC and booted into windows OK (so I'm
guessing no harm done to this PC). The PC with the missing files was
reconnected to the original PC and now fails on a different system file
being missing to what was missing before.

I'm not ofay with raid disk setups and afterwards I was concerned that the
good PC was re building itself on the bad hard drive. Is this possible or am
I worrying unnecessarily?

Thanks for any help

That's not a missing file, merely the last file that successfully loaded.
First thing to try is a startup repair
