- Motherboard dead? Or Something Else?

I'm trying to install a new hard drive for a friend and I'm running
into a problem. It won't format (NTFS) completely. Using the Win 2000
setup disc it recognizes the drive and runs through the format process
(prior to starting installation) but comes up with an error at the end
about not being able to format.
I updated the bios and it recognizes the drive and I ran 3 different
hard drive testing proggies, which says the drive is okay.
I then took out the drive and put it in my machine and it formatted
and installed fine. Put it back in his computer and Windows loads,
then crashes to blue screen.
Is the motherboard shot? Is there some kind of definitive test I could
use to rule out the mobo?
Re: Motherboard dead? Or Something Else?
I have seen similar problems adding new larger hard drives in older
The older power supplies were just not up to the load the added hard drive
and would fluctuate just enough during the time it takes to format a large
drive for the formatting process to fail. Try another power supply and see
if that clears things up.
