laptop. Ran memtest86 v3.2 and each stick passed when it was the only
one installed (either slot). Got errors when both were installed at
the same time. Tested with one new stick and the original 512 meg
stick with no errors and windows is running fine.
Anybody have an idea as to what is wrong/broken?
Re: Memory problem?
Do not ever ever try to boot windows before running
memtest86+ to confirm stabilty.
Now, you may have to reinstall windows just to get rid of
file corruption. It would be done after you have resolved
the memtest86+ reported errors, if you still have problems
running the OS.
Did you test with the other stick?
Does memtest always report errors in the same addresses, and
only those? Probably, (unless one module is physically
damaged), your system simply cannot run these two together
stabily. You might see if the system manufacturer has a
bios update to address memory compatibility, or whether the
bios allows memory timings changes (less likely on a
laptop), but otherwise if none of this helps you should RMA
the memory if possible.
