Laptop Shuts Down And Won't Start Back Up Right Away.

I have a HP Pavilion zv5000 and I always keep it plugged in because the
battery doesn't hold a charge anymore. So my problem is that my computer
will run for about 24 hours or so and then it shuts down. When I try to
turn it back on it won't do it for hours. After I keep it unplugged for
4 hours or so I plug it back in and then it will start up and run fine.
So my question is what is failing on my laptop? Is it the power supply
or could it be my power cord? I've never had a computer that has done
anything like this before to me. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank You In Advance,

Matt

P.S. I just checked my CPU temperature and it is running at a steady
102C. It's an AMD 64bit processor. Is it shutting down because of
overheating possibly?

Very likely overheating .. 102C is extreme .. Which AMD processer is it
exactly?.. should be able to find the specifications re' temperature limits
.. You  can improve the situation by blowing out the dust through the
processor's air intake vent using compressed air.

Also, being careful not to cover the vents on the underside of you laptop ..
all it can take is for your leg to completely cover the main air intake  ..
and that can cause your laptop to overheat.

Yes, 102C is _extremely_ extreme, especially considering that the computer
should just be sitting there idling. My biggest question is how it could be
working at all under those conditions and why it would suddenly be pushed
over the edge from working to non-working and stay that way for hours at a
time. At that sort of temperature the cooling fan should be whirring like
mad -- is it audible? Have the heatsink/fan/vents ever been cleaned? Are
the vents unblocked?

Perhaps the laptop has suffered a knock recently and it has dislodged the
CPu heatsink a bit, or broken the cooling fan?

Yes those are all possible too! But now I am getting an even weirder
problem! When I woke up the next day the laptop would turn on but I
would not get any video at all! I kept trying every few hours or so to
see if I could get video but nothing until the next day! I am using it
now and I have video! Really weird. Any other idea's anyone has? I'm
broke and don't have the money to have it fixed or buy a new one. So I
am trying anything possible.

Thanks again for all the help! Any other ideas are greatly
appreciated!!
