Often a RAID controller will not support ATAPI devices like
your DVDRW drive, unless you have a jumper you can change to
put it in non-RAID mode. You might also find the card bios
doesn't load with only ATAPI drives, that it's necessary to
have a hard drive connected if you wished to boot from the
DVDRW while connected to the card, though the OS driver
should still allow use of those ATAPI drives.
If you can't find a way to make it work, return it and get a
card that either has the jumper to put it in non-RAID mode,
or is advertised as a ATA100 or ATA133 card instead of a
RAID card. Sometimes a card's chip will support non-RAID
mode but the manufacturer doesn't install the jumper on the
PCB, but I don't enough info to know if it would apply in
your case... if it did you might be able to solder a jumper
wire onto the card to make it work, or instead of the wire,
the jumper header pins to use a normal removable jumper.
