How to Share a Printer ?!

Threaded View
I have a host with a printer that I wish to share with a virtual
machine guest . Nothing I read or try enables the guest to print. Host
is running Windows 7 64bit and guest is Windows XP 32bit. I tried to
enable Printer sharing on the host but not sure this is working. I
also got the XP print driver on the host (guest is not configured for
internet access to avoid the necessity of virus and other protections)
but can't get the driver transfered. Tried File sharing but NG. Any
help greatly appreciated and thanks.

"not configured for internet access"

But that also includes connecting to the Printer Sharing.

You're going to have to trace down the details
for your particular hosting software. For example, the
very last comment here, someone managed to get guest
to access host only, but not Internet.

You can't always depend on the Windows Firewall, because the
insertion point for packets might be logically after that.
And I'm not good enough at all these "modes" of networking,
to tell you which is the hot prospect.

I leave all my VMs, connected to everything. I try not to
do too much "network interactive" stuff in there. Like,
I wouldn't shop on Ebay, from inside a VM. I'd do that
from the host. Certainly, I have done downloads from
in there, because updating a Linux VM required downloading
from the package serving source.
