Currently I have several ultra320 scsi 10K 146Gb drives on raid5
running, with several logical drives.
I would like to install 5 of the same drives in the 220s, and increase
the space on 2 of the logical drives, although not sure how I would do
this, if it's even possible?
would I use the perc controller bios (Perc/Cerc Bios config utility
ver5.62) when the server boots? I guess as it's raid5 I would also
have to wait for the drives to be written to?
I'd just like to know what will happen and what options I'll have when
I turn the server off, push in the 5 new drives and turn it back on!
My 775N is running Windows Server 2003 with Dell OpenManage Server
Any help or advice you could give me would be appreciated. It's all
Re: Help needed upgrading Powervault 220s Raid5 / Perc with 5 new drives
Since you have several logical drives on the same RAID 5 I can give you
two options. 1. You can insert the drives then go to server
administrator and reconfigure the RAID 5 and add in the extra 5 drives
then use disk management to increase the size of the last logical
drive. It will not let you pick and choose where the extra space
2. You can backup the data and the recreate the entire Raid set with
all the drives and configure them how you like and restore.
