HDMI Audio Problem

My Toshiba laptop has its HDMI port connected to a TV via the TV's
HDMI1 port.  That port is selected using the TV's remote control,
which also is set to play audio on the TV's speakers, on which regular
TV broadcasting plays its audio as well.  The latter works fine.

I want to play the laptop audio on the TV speakers.  But all my laptop
audio plays only on the laptop speakers, not the TV speakers.  I had
presumed that laptop audio would get to the TV speakers through the
HDMI cable., most especially for movie clips I play on the laptop. But
it seems not to.

I must be missing a setting somewhere.  Either the laptop must have to
be directed to send the audio over the HDMI or the TV remote has to be
directed to pick up the audio from HDMI1.  Which would it be?  Anyone
know?  Anyone know what I need to set to make all this work?

Assuming this is a linux system, use the configuration tab in pavucontrol
to turn off the profile for the internal audio. No idea how to do that
in windows, as I haven't used it for several years.
