When I try to install XP w/SP2 the drive (Maxtor Diamondmax10 80Gig)
formats extremely slow...then stops at 54% and will go no further. I
have a diamondmax 200gig for mass storage and unplugged it just
incase it was causing problems. The Bios for this board is absolute
shit. Raid is enabled by default, and the options are confusing. All
raid options are disabled now, so I think what I need to do is
install SATA drivers during the XP setup process by pressing F6. Any
suggestions? The Gigabyte site is rather unhelpful as well. If all
else fails I will flash the BIOS to the newest version and go from
there. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

If you're inclined to update the bios, go ahead and do so
now and load the setup defaults & set anything as needed
afterwards, before installing the OS.
I would wonder if the drive is bad since it stops at 54%.
Run the manufacturer's diagnostics on it including the
"full" (or whatever they're calling it), most thorough
test. Although 54% wouldn't seem to correspond to 32GB, I
might as well ask if you're formatting as NTFS or FAT32,
since XP can't do FAT32 over 32GB... you'd need use another
method like a Win9x or DOS boot floppy w/FDISK & format on
As for the raid options, to use the drive as a single drive,
configure it as a single span... or with different wording,
same meaning, not a single-drive stripe. You can leave the
raid options enabled if you like.
How are you now needing to install the raid drives if the
drive isn't even finishing the format? True, you should
have that driver floppy ready for when the time comes.
