DVD+R is a newer format and is therefore incompatible with older devices:
DVD+R(W) has supposedly better error management and is less prone to
errors at higher speeds.
New CD/DVD drives can read both DVD+R(W) and DVD-R(W) formats though I am
sure if you look hard enough you can find a new drive that only does one
or the other.
