My main drive (EIDE) is failing.  I want to replace it with an SATA drive.
My BIOS lists HDD-0 .. HDD-3 as boot options with HDD-0 being the
current boot disk.  Do HDD-2 and HDD-3 refer to the 2 SATA ports?

Re: Boolting From An SATA HDD

I'm not trying to steer you the wrong way but I've heard many posters refer
to using SCSI  as the boot device when setting up a first SATA drive and
then upon beginning XP installation the need to install the SATA controller
driver by hitting the F6 key. The driver needs to be ready on a 3.5" floppy.
Maybe the Asus manual has some information that could clarify.

I have the A7N8X-Dlx motherboard and am using SATA. Yes, use SCSI as
your boot up disk. Also make sure that the SATA jumper is set
correctly or it won't even look for a SATA disk on boot-up.

If you're going to be installing Windows, be sure that you have the
SATA drivers on floppy disk (it must be a floppy, since it won't
recognize optical media) and use the F-6 option when the Windows
install process first begins. If you don't do this, Windows won't even
realize that your SATA drive exists.
