What can y'all tell me about the AMD Athlon XP 3000+
CPU? It's in an ASUS motherboard.

The HD in my old P2/266 MHz was failing, so I had all
the data transferred to a new computer (I was due for an
upgrade anyway.)

Is/was the XP 3000+ a decent CPU? It is running at
2.2 GHz, 400 MHz FSB, 512M RAM, 80 Gig HD,
Dual Layer DVD Burner, Windows XP Service Patch 2.

Sure its 400 FSB and 512 cache and only 200 mhz less than the 3200
which isnt that big of a deal.

However there are deals on 754 sockets going on. You should pay too
much for a socket A there are pretty cheap 939 and 754 boards and the
chips are getting cheaper.

The 939 probably cant get it cheaper than 3000 $149 + $50-60 for a
real cheap board.  Might be cheap combo deals soon especially the
Sempron 3100 with 64 bit enabled.

RIght now there are cheap 754 socket combos like this one

The caveat with Outpost deals is its a ECS board one of the cheapo
makers of boards another name for PC chips people have said.

Re: AMD Athlon XP 3000+

you should rethink Socket 754 they are being phased out, you would be better
off getting a 939 if you plan on doing any PROC upgrades in the near future.

I don't upgrade very often. I had my P2/266 for 7+ years. <g>

I was more concerned about the performance of the XP 3000+.

This was done in "panic" mode. My P2/266 had a failing HD, and
I needed to transfer data - fast. [No, the P2/266 had no backup.]
