I have an HP that when restarted today, the desktop loads, with all icons,
processes and quick launch, but right away explorer.exe aborts. I received
the following error message: The instruction at 0x00b414ba referenced memory
at 0x00b414ba. The memory could not be written. Click OK to terminate the
application. Click Cancel to debug."

Now whenever I restart the machine, the same thing happens, all of the icons
load, then explorer.exe aborts and I obviously lose all icons, start menu,
etc.

I have run chkdsk /r and it addresses one or more errors. I tried executing
expand d:\i386\explorer.ex_ c:\windows and was told there was no floppy or CD
in the drive when there was. I tried opening explorer.exe through the task
manager and nothing happens. It does run in safe mode.

Any help would be much appreciated.
