Please log in for more thread options The AUTD feature (Always Up To Date) uses SMS text messaging to inform the
device that there is some e-mail waiting on the server. The device receives
the text and then does the sync. Yes.... someone has to pay for the text
messages.
If you don't want to pay for these, then you can use the device schedule
instead. This allows you to sync on a regular basis, down to every 5 minutes
if you need your e-mail that quickly.
The future is the "push" capability using Exchange 2003 SP2 and an update to
Windows Mobile 5. This allows the Exchange server to notify the device over
the IP netowrk that there is mail waiting - so there is no need to pay for
SMS text messages or any other server components. This update was released
by Microsoft in October or so last year, and many carriers / device
suppliers have announced earlier this week that they will be using it later
this year.
Cheers, Chris
