Hi, I might have accidentaly deleted a vital component of Windows 98,
that I am not able to start the computer at all. It goes through the
initialization, but when the Windows screen appears it goes black
with message: "Cannot find System.ini
You need to run Windows Setup again to install the
file"
Just when you read it, it switches itself of. I am going mad...
Is there anyone out there with any idea what to do? Thanks

How about running Windows Setup again to install System.ini? Do you
have a Windows setup disk or recovery disk? Be careful, of course,
that you don't go ahead and wipe out your current Windows install and
data completely (though you may wind up having to do this anyway). If
your Windows setup is hosed, you can at least recover data from this
hard disk with a USB enclosure.

Do you have a recent backup of your system? If so, you might find a
copy of system.ini there.

Hi, thanks, but the thing is, that I don`t have the installation disk.
It was a quite cheap second hand laptop, worked fine for a year or so
and didn`t come with the installation disk. Is there any other way
how to get the missing file?
