Been using Media Center 2005 for about a year, works great. HD crash,
installed new HD, then did Windows ASR (Automatic System Recovery) by booting
to the Media Center 2005 OEM CD. Nothing happens when I push the start button
on the microsoft remote control. From the desktop, if I hit start, then Media
Center gives the above error message. Here's the really weird
part....Properties of My Computer shows the O/S to be Microsoft Windows XP
Pro v2002 SP2.

Hugh,

You are looking at the wrong place for your Media Center version. More info

If it says Professional, you likely installed it wrong (as it should/would
say Media Center).

Sounds like you entered a XP Professional key and as a result, the MCE bits
didn't install.

The correct answer for this problem is to add a new registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\WPA\MediaCenter
Installed="1"
