As a former user of HotSync, I'm used to being able to look at the details
behind two items that have been deemed in conflict during the sync process so
that I can determine which one to keep. ActiveSync only tells you which item
has the conflict and asks you to pick whether the desktop or mobile device
item should be kept. Without knowing the details behind each item a decision
is totally arbitrary. How do I view the differences between the two items
before eliminating one?

There is no easy solution... I would suggest making a backup of the item
that will be overwitten on the pc (by your choice) then run a file
compare on the backup and the synced file to spot the differences.
