I have tabbed browsing activated. lately i notice that there is a dead new
window for one of the tabs on the desktop. when i click on the tab for this
in the active IE window it dispappears. however, if you try to close the
actual dead window, it does nothing. this behavior is entirely new, never
seen it before. i have seen it on my other machines as well.

anyone know of a fix??

IE 6
XP sp2

I have this exact same occurance. It's not really a new window, it's more of
a unactivated image clone from one of the tabbed sites. Whenever I click that
"dead" image, I hear some windows sound, which I'm unsure of the name. There
has to be a fix for this, it really aggrivates me. I hope a developer for
this msn toolbar reads this, and can provide a patch or some kind of update
to fix this. I'm also running IE 6 with XP sp2

so here is a 90% fix:

turn off tabbed browsing in the MSN toolbar options. then close explorer.
you can the reboot if you like, r just re-open IE and turn tabbed browsign
back on. it seems to work. may need to redo this occasionally.

best
