considering mediacenter and extender.... Al 06-19-2006

I am considering purchasing a Media Center PC for my home office. I
will want to use it as a PC and a Media Center. My wife, who is
bedridden and in another room, is only interested in the Media Center
features.

Is it possible to use an extender for her to use the Media Center
features in the bedroom, while I use the same PC for my office work? Or
for us to be watching different programs? For her to playback a DVD
while I watch direct input from the cable company?

The guy I talked to at CompUSA said I would likely run into trouble due
to lack of resources, but he seemed uncertain. Any informed comments
would be greatly appreciated.

DVD playback is not available over extenders. Only on the host MCE
machine. You probably couldn't find a V1 extender at this point. An
XBox 360 works as an extender and DVDs would be playable directly on
it.

Resources should be ok - I'd suggest a gig of RAM if you are going to
use as an office machine.
