My device won't sync with Win Mob Dev Mgr. It used to work fine and now
won't sync contacts. Everything else works fine. I can restore contacts with
backup but when sync occurs it deletes all outlook 2007 contacts. ANy ideas?

Hi,
Did you delete the contacts on your device? If so then it will delete the
contacts.

One of the main reason for syncing is to have a backup if you lose the
contacts from your phone.
You'll also lose them off your phone if you flash upgrade you phone.
What exactly are you supposed to do to get your contacts back in such a
situation?

That's a very "phone centric" statement. As a long time Outlook user, my
phone's contacts are a copy of my desktop- not the other way around.

They'd still be on the PC they originally came from.

As Chris said, most of us would simply delete the partnership and resync,
since that would reload the most recent copy Back on the phone. If you've
got a bunch on contacts on the phone that aren't on a PC, I'd suggest using
a backup utility (google PIMBackup) to backup the contacts to a storage card,
delete and recreate the partnership then restore the backup to sync any
missed contacts back to the PC. Alternatively, if you've got an unlimited
data plan, get a free Exchange account from mail2web.com. This will
accomplish two things- backup your Contacts to their server, and prevent
your contacts from being deleted when you delete the partnership with your
PC (since they'll still be in use with another partnership.)

Good luck!

So does "delete the partnership" equate to "Delete Mobile Device" on the
file menu of ActiveSync 4.5?

Why is it necessary to backup and restore the contacts on the phone in this
case?

Partnership sounds to be totally stupid inappropriate name for something so
obviously asymmetric.

Partnership suggests the two copies are equal but they clearly are not since
deleting the partnership destroys one copy of the contacts (on the phone)
but not the other (on the PC).

As often happens with Microsoft I'm left thinking WTF? are they deliberately
trying to alienate their customers.
