I have an Acer notebook (Aspire 5102) with an AMD Turion core. It runs XP
Media Center Edition (2005 ~ was installed on machine when purchased in Nov
'06). I downloaded SP 3 Tuesday pm before I knew of the issues with the AMD
processors.

My problem now is that I can't reboot in safe mode. When I get to the
Windows Advanced Options Menu and chose Safe Mode I am told to select the
operating system and XP Media Center is the only choice so I hit enter. (Safe
Mode appears in the bottom right of the screen at this point).

Once I hit enter, I get a scroll through a list that reads
"multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS\system32/DRIVER\ {lots of
different file names appear with *.sys extensions}"

Then the screen goes black and the Windows XP startup screen comes on and
the machine unsuccessfully tries to start XP. It just keeps going through the
unsuccessful reboot loop.

Any suggestions? I think I could follow the directions to fix the SP 3
problem if I could just start in safe mode. I love my laptop and am pretty
distraught as I have a paper due in two weeks.

Thanks for reading.
