I am trying to add a network drive to "Custom folders and email locations" in
Windows Desktop Search Indexing Options. I click "Browse", then check the
box for my network drive, then click "OK". At this point, WDS hangs and
stops responding.

I have also tried entering the path to the network drive and then clicking
on "Add", then OK. Still, the same problem--it hangs at this point.

I had WDS set up previously to search the network drive and it worked great.
Unfortunately, I had to uninstall and reinstall the app and now I am having
this problem.

I have tried everything I can think of, including an uninstall & reinstall
all MSN apps, installing an older version of WDS, and disabling firewall.

Can someone help, please? Does anyone know how to get around this problem?

Thanks!

Hi,

If your using the enterprise version of WDS, it could be that your
system administrator has disabled the indexing of network drives (it
would then show an error message such as access denied).
The only other idea I have is try upgrading to the latest WDS version.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I have since discovered that the problem may be
unrelated to the network drive.

When I select "Custom folders and e-mail locations" then click Browse, a
window appears allowing me to select various folders via check boxes. It is
this window "Windows Desktop Search Locations" that hangs. If I click
Browse, the window opens, then I click Cancel and the program hangs. If I
click OK the program hangs. It seems that the hang will occur regardless of
whether I select a network drive. I get a program not responding error. The
only way for me to close the window it to "end task".

Is this an issue that others are having? Any suggestions?

Thanks for your help!

It could be that your computer is having trouble resolving network
names/paths. I would suggest unplugging any network cables/wireless
connections and try opening the custom folders and email locations
dialogue box again. If this does not hang then it has something to do
with your network setup.

However I would recommend updating to the latest WDS version first. It
could fix the problem.
