My question is: Can the server (of a server/thin client application)
tell if the application is running on the remote thin client if no one
at the client terminal interacts with the application?
I have an server/thin client application developed for us where a
client logs in and may not actively interact with the application. It
is used mainly to display information that is updated periodically.
The user may not actually sit down at the computer and interact with
it. How can I detect if the remote computer is still accessing
(displaying) the application if the user does not actually interact
with it?
The specific application is a GIS application using ESRI products.
The reason for my question is that the client displays a list of the
clients that are logged onto the system. The developer of the server
program says that they cannot tell if the client is still there unless
the client interacts with the application. The list they now show is
incorrect and they say they cannot correct it unless they see that
interaction. Is this true? Is there some way to determine if the
client is DISPLAYING the application. Their only solution now is to
log-off the client periodically and that is NOT acceptable. We want
the client to display the information being sent by the server
indefinitely.
