i would like to set up a system kind of like a "media server". i want a
central repository for my library of (largely) movies and music which are
currently stored on cd and dvd. i want to be able to call those various
movies up onto different screens in different rooms and have the sound play
for them in the corresponding rooms. obliviously there is some advanced
configuration involved, maybe even some third party software involved, but my
question is this: assuming i have the permanent storage capability to handle
this undertaking, will xp media center handle this the task of recording my
media to hard disk, storing it, and serving it up when i call on it? if not,
what will?

I do this using DVDShrink for copying my DVD's to a dedicated server on my
MCE Network and the My Movies plug-in for MCE2005. I have a dedicated Media
Server running XP and 3 MCE 2005 boxes in the house. Works perfectly.

Find them at:

http://www.dvdshrink.org/

http://www.mymovies.name/

Also, be sure to download the My Movies Multizone PDF to help you set it up
around the house:

These 2 programs have allowed me to copy about 40 of my DVD's to date and
the interface withing MCE is fantastic. Best of all, both ar FREE- but
donations to the guys are welcome.

If you have any questions, post them here and I can probably help you out.
