I have my email configured so email is not deleted from either my computer
or BJ automatically. When I delete an email from my BJ I still want it left
on my computer for reference. Is that what you want?

bob,
i'm not having a problem with the messages being left on the server.
my problem is that i can't send or receive unless i'm hooked up via
usb. there must be some setting incorrect because my pop3 account works
fine. you can email me directly if you like hailecam@yahoo.com
thanks. jamie

Have you tried XpressMail? I use it with my Cingular 8125 (HTC) and my
comcast.net email account without having to have a USB connect.

Please log in for more thread options Hi Jamie,
I'm sorry setting up email hasn't been a more pleasant experience for you.
Let's see if we can get this beat! Let me start with the disclaimer that
every windows mobile device can be a little different depending on the
carrier, which is Cingular in your case. I've never had a blackjack in my
hand so I don't know exactly what you are seeing but I'll do my best to help
you get this set up.
The first thing I need to know is do you have a data plan for your device?
If you don't have a data plan for you phone then only being able to send and
receive email while you are connected to your desktop would make sense. If
you are unsure, with your device disconnected from your PC open internet
explorer and enter a random web address, such as http://www.microsoft.com
and see if it loads. If you see the page loading in internet explorer
you've got a data plan.
Once we're sure you've got a data plan there are two ways to retrieve your
email, option 1 and option 2. Option 1 uses all Microsoft software while
option 2 relies's on a Yahoo program to augment the Microsoft software. I
have never personally done option 2 so I can't support it other than explain
how to get started, so feel free to try option 2, but if it doesn't work,
I'm pretty darn sure we can get option 1 working for you.
OPTION 1:
Assuming you have a data plan, the next question I have for you is did you
setup your Yahoo mail account on the phone, or did you set it up in Outlook
and it got transferred to your phone. For it to work properly you should
set it up directly on the phone. Below I have put together instructions on
how to do this. If they are unclear let me know what's confusing and I'll
try to clarify! Some of this information is from the blackjack's user
manual which can be found at
http://www.samsungmobileusa.com/samsungblackjack/en/
1. From the main Messaging screen, select New Account...
2. Select Other (POP3/IMAP) and press the Next soft key.
3. Enter your display name (which for you is likely: Jaime) and e-mail
address (hailecam@yahoo.com), and press the Next soft key.
4. UNCHECK Attempt to obtain email settings from the Internet. (you could
check it and see if it works, but by un-checking it and following the steps
below it may be more likely that it will work).
4. enter your user name (hailecam), your password, and leave the domain
field blank. The domain field is only for some very old mail servers. Press
the next key.
5. Select the e-mail server type (POP3), enter an account name (such as: My
Yahoo Mail), and select a network type which should be (Internet). Press the
Next soft key.
7. In the incoming server box enter: pop.mail.yahoo.com then check the
box next to Require SSL connection.
8. For the outgoing server enter: smtp.mail.yahoo.com then check the box
next to Outgoing Server requires authentication.
9. Select and action (press down on the button in the center of the
direction keys) on Outgoing Server Settings. I don't know what this page
looks like exactly but you want to check Require SSL connection for you
outgoing server if you see such a setting, and you want to make sure that it
is using the same username and password as your incoming server. Press the
soft key that corresponds to done or next when you are finished on this
page.
10. Press the next soft key.
11. Set the options for downloading e-mail messages and press the Next soft
key. You can select the number of days for which you receive e-mail messages
and set the maximum data volume of
e-mail messages you want to download.
12. Select how often your phone automatically connects to the server and
checks for incoming e-mails, and press the Next soft key.
13. Press the Finish soft key.
Hopefully you are done now! Try sending and receiving and see if that
works, hopefully it does but in the case that it doesn't reply to this post
with whatever information you have (error message, description of what
happens when you try to send/receive, etc.) and I'll do my best to help.
Also you can try option 2.
OPTION 2:
Go here...
http://sites.mobile.yahoo.com/go/mobile/download?download=smartphone and
follow their instructions. They seem quite simple and unlike my
instructions use pictures, so it's easier to follow what's going on.
Good luck Jaime and let me know how it turns out!

Please log in for more thread options This isn't exactly my area of expertise, but it sounds like maybe you are
configured for PC sync instead of exchange sync. I say this because you
said that you are able to send pop3 mail while not connected and therefore
it is not an issue of connectivity when you are not tethered.
Send/Receive of outlook mail is only avialable over the air if you are
configured to sync with your exchange server as far as I know. The easiest
way to look at this is probably on the desktop. Open up the active sync
application while your device is connected and go to tools -> options. You
should see how you are syncing your email, appts, and contacts and it is
either "exchange server" or "pc". You will want to sync with the server,
not with the PC.
You should also be able to adjust this through the device side active sync,
if you prefer: start -> active sync -> menu -> options.
Hope this helps!
