What is the smallest , lightest, longest battery life notebook/ultraportable
machine available generally today ? I need power only for voice recognition
software for dicatation . I do not play games nor need to use video editing
stuff. Don't really care too much about video watching either.
Is the Sony Vaio TZ series about the best bet ?

I regard the Sony T series as the gold standard for ultraportable
notebooks. Expensive, though. My old TR is still going strong, just
needed one third-party battery. You might do better, especially for the
price. Check ASUS, also.

For light weight and long battery life, I really like PDA (aka
handhelds) computers. My PDA is about 9 years old now (Palm IIIc). And
it gets 12 hours or more per charge. Modern day PDAs shouldn't have any
problems with voice recognition for dicatation. Just my 2¢ worth.
