Joe,
I just bought a Toshiba 490CDT (Pentium II, 4 gig drive, 64 megs) for
$10 at a hamfest last week. It was missing the power supply and had a
bad inverter, both of which I've already acquired, but was otherwise
perfect. I have $40 in it working. Today, on E-Bay, got a Toshiba
430CDT for $26, complete (that's a Pentium 120 MHz). You can pick up
old laptops for $10 to $40 pretty easily if you are patient (that price
does not include shipping, which may be as much as about $30 (as much as
the actual selling price, in some cases)). As long as they have some
reasonable memory (not less than about 24 megabytes and preferably a bit
more), they will run 98SE just fine. But you can also buy a pile of
junk, and sometimes it can be difficult to know which is which.
