How do I get rid of the box in google-chrome that says "Your PC is
running too slow" and "fix registry errors" and "make facebook run
faster"  ?

We've clicked on those messages before and had major trouble in the
past.

It's a malware/virus.  I'd like to get rid of the annoying box.  It
flashes those messages.

Okay.

Can you reboot into safe mode with command prompt?

If you can...

You want to head on over to c:\programdata

type dir /o-d /a /p and pay attention to the dates. You're looking for
something new.. around the time you noticed a problem or a little
sooner.

Enter that folder. You're probably going to find some funky looking
filenames. Rename them from *.exe to *.vxe to disable them.

type cd %temp%
here you will likely find more funny named .exe files, created within
days of your problem.

Rename them, just like before.

Reboot your system. See how it behaves. Snag a copy of malwarebytes
antimalware, update your antivirus. Scan with malwarebytes, then follow
up with antivirus.

If all seems well, delete those ".vxe" files you renamed earlier.

If you still have trouble, post back and we'll go from there.

I would be *VERY* careful about taking the advice of "Dustin".  He is a kno=
wn virus writer, an acknowledged hacker, and by his own writings has been s=
ought after by law enforcement.  Nuff said.  Caveat emptor.

To fix your problem, I'd try to scan your hard drive using Comodo's free, s=
tand alone virus hunter found on their website.  It's so good, running from=
inside of Windows and detecting even rootkits, that I've stopped using a L=
inux based CD to do the same thing.  Go to Comodo's website and search for =
their free tool.

Watch out Ray. I bet Dustin isn't going to be happy when he reads that.

Yeah he'll probably try email bombing my email address, or send me a virus or
something.  That's Dustbin for ya.

I still don't know who Dustbin is. You keep sending posts to the wrong
person.

You've asked me for a virus several times Ray. I wouldn't even provide you
full source code, what makes you think I'd send your irresponsible dumbass
a binary? :)

You watch out Bear, backing Lopez (the aspiring 11 yr old software antivirus

Ray,

For once you have spoken the truth about me. Everything you've written
concerning my past is all true.

With that said however, I've only provided sound advice from a
researcher pov for a number of years now. I have an extensive knowledge
of viruses and malware and I put this information to use, helping
people. Not harming. :)

I have a clean track record now, nearly 13 years and counting.

Ray,

This isn't your field of expertise in the slightest. You don't even know
how a prepender based virus works. Fool is better off in my hands. I
won't lead him astray.

"Won't lead him astray".  Yeah, that's why he posted he'll take his 'puter =
to the store.  Sound move.  As for your statement "I have a clean track rec=
ord now, nearly 13 years and counting", the saying "once an alcoholic, alwa=
ys an alcoholic" comes to mind.  Substitute 'hacker' for 'alcoholic' and yo=
u get the difference.  Hacking is addictive, like the crack you probably sm=
oke.

I think this is too complicated for me and don't want to mess up the
computer.  I'll have the store look at it.

I would install avast (free) and run a boot-time scan. Follow up with
a full scan with MBAM (also free).
