After automatic update my computer cannot access internet or send/receive email.
 Other computers in house are fine.  I have Norton Anti-virus.  Very
frustrating- Please help!

    Aha, a windows XP update ! On topic here.
    I suggest you go to "control panel /add and remove programs"
and look for the update and try to uninstall it from there. You can
probably find it by date.
    And switch off automatic updates. Micro$oft intends to destroy
XP.
    As to the Norton problem, I'm afraid I can do nothing about
that, other than suggest freeware alternatives.

There is nothing wrong with Norton 360. Would I pay for it, no. I get it  
for free. It works fine and loads on boot much faster than Avast.

Have you tried temporarily disabling Norton? Have you tried a restore  
point or otherwise removing the suspected 'update'?
