Beware of WINZIP 18. It has browser hijack malware included called
'mysearchdial' and does not make it clear that by clicking 'NEXT' when
installing the update that this crap will also be installed.

Where did you get it?

My wife got a message that there was an update when she opened a zipfile,
downloaded (from Winzip) and installed it.  Annoyingly as part of the
install she missed the dialogue box that 'congratulates' you on installing
it - not something you would expect from a fairly reputable company. When I
looked closer at it it is easy to keep clicking next and miss the fact that
crapware is being installed :-(

It took a lot of getting rid of as well.  I ended up having to restore from
a disk image just to make sure as it changed the home page in Firefox and
MSIE

I was downloading something or other from a freebie site the other day
when I spotted that, in addition to the two boxes allowing me to
exempt from downloading the ask.com toolbar and some other gimmick of
theirs, the pictorial and fancy type at the top of the box was
informing me that their movie viewer would also be installed with the
download.  There was no out given on that deal.  They tried fooling me
with the two choices I could opt out of, but in the razzle-dazzle
fancy fontage at the top it warned me about the non opt out for the
viewer.  I'm lucky I caught it.  Lousy greedy bastards.

What really gets up my nose is that this is paid for, properly licenced
software with regular updates.  If they are going to play these games then I
will have to reconsider paying next times maintenance fee.

There's one screen that shows an additional program to install or not.
There's a big DECLINE button on the bottom left.

The point is that these s.o.b.s play games trying to get their
crapware installed on the comps of people who really don't want their
crapware.  But I guess that if one can mug someone in today's world
simply because the bad guy's deceptive technique is well done - well,
then dishonesty is allowed. Right?

I know there is a DECLINE button, but for those not used to the various
scams, it would not have registered that something else was being installed,
which is what these lowlifes rely on.  Also the point is malware should not
be included with paid for software updates!  I spent about 2 hours cleaning
this crap off the computer so that the browsers could be used again.

Why are you paying for Winzip when there are good free alternatives
available like 7zip and Izarc?

You should complain and tell them why you will no longer be
subscribing to their service. How much updating does a zip program
need anyway, fer f**k's sake!?
