I'll be switching from Verizon DSL to FIOS next week. This has a built
in hardware firewall.
I've seen conflicting advice on whether or not to turn off Windows
firewall. Any recommendations and does it hurt to run both.

As a former Verizon FIOS Network Technician I feel it necessary to warn
you that although you are receiving a superior product to most
competitors the level of service you will receive is mediocre at best.
That is not because of the level of competency of the call center
technicians but more because of the policies that have been put into
place to ensure their call times remain below 12 minutes.  If you need
a service call prepare to wait days for the first available appointment
and stay home all day to prevent the service technician from putting a
no-show tag on your door.  The worst problem you can experience is a
billing related one or move service from one residence to another.
Other than that enjoy your TV experience!

The Windows XP firewall will not conflict with the hardware firewall that
comes with the FIOS modem/router.  If it is turned off the OS will
definitely be less secure IMHO.  I would be interested to know why anyone
thinks it should be turned off ( ? )
