Windows Defender / Unwanted Items

Threaded View
WD identified some spyware/adware on my machine the other day and when I
tell it to "Remove" or "Quarantine" I get an error message that says:

"Windows encountered an error:  0 x 80501001.  One or more actions could be
completed successfully.  Do you want details of this error?"

When I click "yes" I get the "history" window opens showing multiple
instances of the offending programs, specifically:
Software Bundler:Win32/KaZaA
TrojanDownloader:Win32/WebP2PInstaller

It has the date and a message in the right hand column that states an error
was encountered.  I've gone to the bottom of the "frame" for more details,
clicked on the links that tell you what to do, followed those instructions
and still can't get rid of these messages.  Problem this is creating is that
I ALWAYS have an "!" (exclamation point) on my WD icon in the system trary,
which basically makes using WD useless.  Any ideas or suggestions would be
greatly appreciated.

OS:  XP

Sincerely,

When posting the SAME message in multiple groups, it is considered rude
to multipost multiple disconnected copies of your message.  Learn to
crosspost!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crossposting
http://www.cs.tut.fi/~jkorpela/usenet/xpost.html

A point not made is that N multiposted copies will consume N times the
space for separate copies of the same post.  Crossposted messages have
just *one* copy on the server and the groups simply have pointers back
to that same single copy.  Multiposting wastes disk space on the server.
Yes, your post is small but remember that you consume N times the space
on one server and then do so on all the newsgroups servers worldwide.

Crossposting helps readers in one group see the replies from those in
another RELATED newsgroup to which you copied your post.  That way, they
don't waste their time duplicating similar replies that already exist.

See replies in other groups to which you choose to disconnect the
readers from seeing others' replies.

Re: Windows Defender / Unwanted Items

Sorry about being ignorant in "cross posting".  Never heard of it.  Didn't
realize I was being rude.  I don't really understand how these newsgroups
work.

My apologies.

If you're posting a post to multiple NG(s), then send it to all of them at
one time, and not the same post individually to each NG, just like you are
sending an email to multiple recipients.

Re: Windows Defender / Unwanted Items

I understand now.... It would be much easier than what I was doing; i.e.
copying, pasting, posting...
Thanks.
