Win update fix

Do you have a question? Post it now! No Registration Necessary.  Now with pictures!

I had a problem with one of my Win 2K machines where
Windows Update would download but not install updates.
Some internet searching revealed that this problem is
not all that uncommon, apparently. I created the below
batch file which I've tested on both Win 2K and XP. All
of the DLL files should exist in the system32 folder:

@echo off
cls
echo A SUCCESS MESSAGE SHOULD APPEAR AS EACH DLL IS REGISTERED.
regsvr32 %SystemRoot%\system32\urlmon.dll
regsvr32 %SystemRoot%\system32\shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 %SystemRoot%\system32\mshtml.dll
regsvr32 %SystemRoot%\system32\browseui.dll
regsvr32 %SystemRoot%\system32\wuweb.dll
regsvr32 %SystemRoot%\system32\wups2.dll
regsvr32 %SystemRoot%\system32\wups.dll
regsvr32 %SystemRoot%\system32\wucltui.dll
regsvr32 %SystemRoot%\system32\wuaueng1.dll
regsvr32 %SystemRoot%\system32\wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 %SystemRoot%\system32\wuapi.dll
CLS
echo FINISHED!

Copy and paste this to a text editor, then Save it as
PREP.BAT (for example). Double click on PREP.BAT
when in Windows Explorer.

Also, I made sure to clear out IE cache as well before
using WU. Another piece of advice I recall was to
make sure your firewall isn't blocking port 443 SSL
which someone claimed is required by WU. Anyway,
clearing IE cache and registering the DLLs solved
my problem.

<rant> Too bad MS doesn't give users a clue of
what to do or try when WU doesn't work!!!
