Win 7 Antispyware 2012 [infected me]

I don't know where it came from.
It may have appeared on January 1st [was hiding, waiting?]

or there was one email attachment I tried opening, unsuccessfully,
and that may have been it [?], I'm not sure.
I don't normally open email attacments,
but it came from a known person.

Anyway, it took me 24 hours to get rid of it.
Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware helped me get rid of it.
I'm not endorsing this program.
I probably won't get the paid version.

I'm just wondering,
Where might this have come from?

thanks, marc

My guess...

You cliicked on an email URL which was part of a Black Hole Exploit campaign and
your PC
is not up to date with ALL software.

Re: Win 7 Antispyware 2012 [infected me]

You may be right Dave,

I just scanned the file I mentioned,
that didn't want to open,
with 3 different programs. Nothing found.

Sorry to hijack this thread, but did six different people upload the
same malware?

Net-Worm.Win32.Small...
Net-Worm.Win32.Small...
Net-Worm.Win32.Small...
Net-Worm.Win32.Small...
Net-Worm.Win32.Small...
Net-Worm.Win32.Small...

Just wondering if it hit a bunch of folks or someone sent it six times
for some reason.

No.  They were the same file with the same MD5 posted by someone with the
following Iranian Domain based email address; boushehr.ir
Apparently the person submitted the same file in all six upload fields so
the one file was uploaded six times.  Argggggggghhhhhh

Re: Win 7 Antispyware 2012 [infected me]

I think I know where my virus may have come from.

I recently visited some "Torrent" sites,
[to see what was available for free]
and I remember being directed/pushed to a variety of websites
[I don't remember downloading any files].

Very possible,
this is where the infection came from.

Re: Win 7 Antispyware 2012 [infected me]

thanks,

virus, rootkit, toolkit, spyware, snoopdog, infection, whatever...
it's all the same to me -- bad bad bad bad

i had 2 backup images, and i still got stung!

i haven't had it this bad in years, that i know of
[my anti ware may have taken care of some of it]

i feel lucky, i didn't lose much data this time,
compared to hard drive crashes i've experienced,
also years ago

thanks, marc

Go to Secunia, run their Software Inspector and see if there is out-of-date
software with
vulnerabilities that led to you being infected with this trojan.  The difference
between a
virus and a trojan is that trojans need assistance to get installed.  Exploiting
known
vulnerabilities is the most common vector of this kind of infection.
