getting a message from the following url
http://update20.conventionupdate.uni.me , which causes me no end of problems
keeps telling me I have numerous infections, locks my computer up.  Would
appreciate some help/advice on how to sort this out, thanks in advance

Restore your last good image. Hopefully you real-time backup your
portable apps and data off-computer.

You do have a good image eh?

You Have a funny way of solving issues such as the OP posted here. Why pull an
older
back up image when it is much better to find and fix the issue. Never will I
understand people who think like you when it comes to computers and computing.
As
far as I am concerned you have no knowledge of computing when you give
amateurish
advice as you did here in this thread.

What do you mean older backup. You must not know how to manage images
(or trying to set a stage to compliment your lesser argument). You
should always have a current backup image. As for data files and
portable apps, you should always sync those real-time off machine.

It's the /only/ sure way to eliminate (solve) the issues such as the OP
posted here...and also the fastest way.

Besides, if he did such, he wouldn't be here asking questions for help.

It's not really that bad an idea even if this really *is* a malware
issue, but I *do* wish he'd get off of his soapbox about it. I think it
is best to find out what's happening first, then it's nice to have known
good images to fall back to if that's your preferred recovery method.
Recovering like that from some malware that includes a password stealer
doesn't really help matters - I'd rather *know* that I should change my
passwords than assume that restoring an image will fix everything.

The reason I am on my soapbox about it should be obvious by the reaction
here to it. Sometimes it takes a while to drill sense into these old farts.

He's convinced that its best to fuck up the system, then just
restore. Probably all those pRon sites.

No Bear,

"WE" protect the damage from occurring.  Not let it happen and
revert to an old image.

We /try/ to protect the damage from occurring. You aren't that smart. No
dig against you. No one is...if you don't understand that, your high
horse needs a picture to show you it is a Shetland Pony.

Bear,

I have not had an infection in years that I did not initiate on
purpose for research.  Don't make the mistake I'm stupid, because I
can show you very quickly the contrary.

Ask Dustin.  I might just ask him for a little boost.  I can ruin
your online rep. in days.  Try me.

I didn't see any threat. You continually over estimate your abilities and

If there was ever any doubt as to the lack of character you

Bear, please have the decency to add an [OT] to your headers
when you post [OT]. I hate filtering. Sometimes I actually agree with
your posts or learn something new.

Reasonable request...however, I'm pretty much done with the petty here.
My posts will be strictly informative from now on....unless... (and that
will be tagged [OT] per your request.
