What free antivirus s/w still only detects? That you have to upgrade to a paid version to...

It's been a while since I caught a virus on my system.  So for two of my sy
stems I use freeware (Panda and Avast); the other I use MSFT Security Essen
tials which is pretty lame but gets 80% of the stuff, which for me is good
enough since the remaining 20% seems pretty rare these days.  I might switc
h to a better AV program however, but I don't catch many viruses (malware,
whatever you want to call it) even though I surf a lot.

The point of this thread is that I recall years ago a trick, I think Comodo
did it, and others, is that if their free version catches (detects on your
HD, not blocks from the web) a virus on your system, a nag screen will com
e up and say "buy the premium version to remove this malware".  I don't thi
nk this is scareware either, but legitimate software.

I think the free version of Malwarebytes does this still (not sure, I'm usi
ng their freeware version and it's good for detection but I think to remove
stuff like tracking cookies and other minor annoyances it asks for you to
upgrade to the paid version), but free version of Avast! does not do this n
ow, since already it has blocked and quarantined a false positive (a progra
m I wrote, but the point being it blocked and quarantined this program and
did not just detect it and ask for an upgrade to remove it).

Anybody else with freeware know about this policy?

Not true.

Your AV should have settings whereby you select what you want it to do
when it detects something.

None of the following 'genuine' freeware programs of Avast, SuperAntiSpyware
(SAS) and MalwareBytes AntiMalware (MBAM) ask you to upgrade to their paid
version to get rid of what they find.
You keep trying to come across as an expert in malware, etc, but your
questions raise a lot of doubt as to your being an expert in anything
dealing with malware.

Without knowing the system configurations, we can't really determine (hahaha)
if avast is responsible or not.
