Bought a new Windows 8 laptop for my college bound kid yesterday and it
came preloaded with McAfee which I promptly uninstalled.  The store
gave us a disc for Webroot Internet Security which still sits unopened.
I installed Avast Free instead.

Any opinions about Webroot?

Its OK and has improved since acquiring Prevx.  I'm not sure which is better
but Avast may be the better of the two.

To add to the Win8 polatform, I suggest Classic Shell to get over the Metro
User Interface.

Use the Webroot CD as a coaster.  That's the only good use for it.

Webroot doesn't even get on the radar screen.
You won't see Webroot, Spy Sweeper, Prevx, or SecureAnywhere listed.

Why do you think the store tossed in for free?  Those are promo discs
they get from the vendor.  The vendor is hoping some of those dupes
are uneducated and will buy their consumer-grade product.
