Wanted New AV Program

I currently use McAfee 2006 internet Suite. Which seems all well and good
but, it is very slow when scanning and makes it difficult to open windows
and run other programs.
Also it it changes the server on my email to numbers instead of the standard
pop3 ISP name, which means I have to change it every morning or if I have to
reboot for any reason.
I have read varying rports on what the best freebie ones are with some
saying Avast is better one, but some say it doesn't catch everything.
I have read that NOD32 is superb, although it is 23 for a year which is
expensive for just an AV with no firewall.
I'd really like to dump McAfee as it is getting annoying, but would like
sound advice as to what to switch to.
Thanks
Dave

Like you, I decided to drop McAfee. I had used it for years.

I switched to AVG Free (http://www.grisoft.com /) and am satisfied with it.
It's less intrusive, less buggy, and more reliable.

Re: Wanted New AV Program

Nod32 or Kaspersky are very reliable and both use less computer resorces
than the other big antivirus programs.

Re: Wanted New AV Program

NOD32 - excellent, low resources.  It's true you pay for it,
but think of the "cost" of getting a virus and trying to get
rid of it.

Until you uninstall it and get something better, turn off Incoming and
Outgoing email scanning. It is superfluous.  Set your POP3 stuff back
and forget about it.

Is this the program with the SpamKiller doohickey?  Kill that too.

Re: Wanted New AV Program

Taking a look at the free firewalls such as Kerio and Zone
Alarm free versions.  Both say they do not provide "identity
theft protection".

What does this actually mean? It doesn't sound so great :-)

TIA
