Hello,
Using the virus application scanning performances in 'VirusTotal', where
does Kaspersky 4.0.2.24/20061004 rank in terms of virus detection compared
to AntiVir, Avast, AVG and eTrust?
And, is Kaspersky 4.0.2.24 also powering AOL's Active Virus Shield?
TIA...............Kayman.

Virus Total is not a av scanner test site. It simply shows the results
of scans of samples submitted, which has nothing to do with testing
products since nothing is known or verified concerning the samples
submitted. Anyway, Kaspersky has long been  top notch in detection.

No. AVS is based on KAV version 6. Version 4 is quite old and
outdated.

Thanks for taking time responding, Art.
Well, I realize that VT isn't a scanner test site per se.  But if, for
example, you'd submit 'suspicious material' to VT frequently/regularly you'd
have a good handle as to which scanning engine performs 'most effectively.
I would have thought that VT would update their scanning applications more
often :)

Not really. The most trusted independant av testing labs use sample
test beds which contain 100's of 1000's of 'confirmed' legitimate
samples in order to be able to test the detection capabilities fairly.
For you to asses antivirus detection capabilities you would have to do
the same.

You can have faith in AV-test.org, av-comparatives.org and also
virusbtn.org
