Usual opening spoken phases:
"This is Windows Service Support"  ..  "Your Computer Is Sending Us Error
Messages"..
"You Computer Is Infected With Viruses"
I've had around 2 per week of these cold 'phone marketing calls for TWO+
YEARS .
Very rare for a week without one  (yes really).

Here in the US they are "reduce your credit card rates" and "reduce your
energy bill cost" fraud calls and violate the US Do Not Call list (DNC) for
those who have Opted-In to the US FTC DNC system.

Re: Vicious Computer Support 'phone Scam Stopped

I (in the south of the UK) typically get 6 total Rubbish 'phone marketing
'cold' scam calls a week.
These are rubbish in that they are not legitimate companies &/or use
lies or  v. dishonest tricks.

I'm on the UK's 'Telephone Preference List' much the same as the US
'do-not-call' registries.
They are breaking UK law in calling.
People find that even having an unlisted  'ex-directory' 'phone no. doesn't
avoid it.
These calls are usually in Office hours to the 'phone -on-the-wall'
not Mobiles.

In recent months the following ..all addressing me by my surname..
have all repeated MANY times:

1) This Computer Service scam.

2) "Our lists show you haven't claimed Government Home Insulation grant..."
this grant is for certain home owners in certain circumstances ..I'm in
rented.
The are trawling for big cost Home Maintenance jobs.

3) PPI Financial Services Mis-selling  claims ...wanting to charge for
making
unnecessary & phony claims.

4) & 5) two different "Please will you answer a Survey..."
one stressing how quickly it will be...the other how it will help Companies
Products.
Also semi-silent ones where the silence soon ends with a recorded voice
saying "......goodbye".

All many times, all do not give real company names. Nearly always hide there
'phone number or use a false 'phone No.

I haven't had for a few months the 'Old Favourite'
"You have won a prize/Holiday..press button n to claim.."

These calls follow a pattern.
I'll get a day when there will be 4 or 5 different ones
then a few days with 1 or 2 each day
then a few days with none or very few.

Friend's of mine in the North of the UK are pestered as much.
But by a mostly different collection.

Another friend NEVER gets such calls !!! or maybe 1 or 2 a year.
She does not have Internet connection (uses mine!)
or the PayPal , EBay, Amazon accounts that go with Net use
I & friends up North think its information sold out from ISP's.

You are on a service that has your PII and they are using that service
maliciously.

For example using;  CareerBuilder.Com  to host a job profile.

Re: Vicious Computer Support 'phone Scam Stopped

Yesterday I had a cold call in the afternoon about double glazing. I just
shouted 'Get stuffed' into the phone and slammed it down heavily. It felt
good.

Tem minutes later, my wife came in and said that the man who she had hired
to fix our kitchen windows had rung again and what on earth did I say to him
before?

Not so good!
