temporarily disconnect AVG anti virus program?

Threaded View
when installing certain software , I am asked to temporarily
DISCONNECT whatever anti-virus software is
installed & running.

I have AVG Free vsn 8.5.    Is there a way of temporarily
disconnecting without completely removing the
software?   I should also add that I am running Windows XP with svc.
pack 2.

best, Aaron

Right click the icon on the task bar and select exit. Program will restart
when you reboot.

Pretty simple Aaron. I am thinking this is the least of problems for you.

Aaron, you also need service pack 3. Install it, and add all updates. Do
it now, before you install anything else.

And make sure that the software you install is trustworthy. Most
programs installers do not require de-activating AV programs, so I'd be
wary of any software that wants you to do this.

IOW, develop a healthy case of paranoia.

;-)

That only terminates the AVGtray application, which is the user interface
for managing AVG. It doesn't stop the Resident Shield component from
working, which is what you may want/need to do when installing software.

Double-click the AVG icon in the task bar notification area (aka tray).

In the AVG Overview screen, double-click the Resident Shield icon.

In the Resident Shield page, untick the 'Resident Shield active' box, then
click the 'Save changes' button.

When you want to re-enable AVG protection, repeat the above but this time
tick the 'Resident Shield active' box, then click the 'Save changes'
button.
