SpyBot - Search & Destroy 1.6.2. Anyone downloaded latest updates?

I'm on the verge of removing this application from my PC.
I  wasting more than an hour and a half trying to remove
what turned out to be a false positive.

Any body used latest up date? Any problems?

False positive. Nothing about the latest update as yet.

I've lost trust in this application. But I'm not the only one who
uses this PC.

Martin.

They *all* fall victim to this (antivirus/antispyware/antimalware) - it is the
nature of the beast.

The value is in the support. If you were satisfied with the support in this
instance, mark it down as a *good* thing. Switching to another security
application may get you *more* of these with *less* satisfying support.

Is that your way of saying "..I don't have a clue.."?

Maybe they said to ask here?  Or maybe he prefers to ask here?  I
would, since I prefer USENET to vendor operated forums.  Maybe he does
too.

Quite a bit of what I suppose could be described as negative comment.
Also a number of posts dealing with the problem I had.
No mention of todays up grade.

Martin.

Actually, he *does* have a clue. If the OP already went that route, it would be
a good thing to mention in the post.

Agreed, usenet rules!!

I'm sure he does, if this is the same Martin I have seen posting for years.

A correction for the false positive was released on November 29. The
regular weekly update dated today also includes the fix.

I don't know what you're doing, but you're obviously going about it the
hard way.

It's also necessary to accept that in the real world there will always
be an occasional false positive. Indeed, I would speculate that an AV or
anti-spyware app that never throws a false positive is more likely to
miss some real infections.

I agree with that. However, I don't think the Spybot folk handled this
very well. Their false positive surely resulted in people deleting an
important system file. Spybot should have made an update available
IMMEDIATELY, not wait 5 days, and they should have put a prominent
notice on their web page. As it is, they barely acknowledged it and
dragged their feet about fixing it.

In Oct'06 Avast had a FB of VBS:Zulu declared viewing web pages at Microsoft.com.

It took two months for Avast to correct that FP.

From their forums, the update should fix the false positive that
reports "Virtumonde.dll" in C:\Windows\System 32\mfc40.dll. Heuristic -
Trojan c-05.:
