SmitFraudFix - is it OK?

Threaded View
I ran d/l and ran the SmitFraudFix install file on 22/01/09. It created
folder, which includes a file SmitFraudFix.cmd with a modified date of
14/01/2009. That was the date on which Something Real Bad (SRB) did a
number on this box (which I've narrated in another thread.)

I d/l SmitFraudFix because a discussion with a virus hunter indicated
that SmitFraud may have been the SRB that trashed my system. So either
the version I d/l included a fix for the latest version of SmitFraud, or
else it's a rogue, too.

Or else I'm too paranoid. Anyhow, I haven't run the program yet.

Thanks for any insights, etc.

Yes it a good anti malware utility for dealing with rogue anti malware in what
is called a
SmitFruad.

On the otherhand you were replied to by PCBUTTS1 which "IS" a SRB (as you call
it).  "He"
claims that S!ri, the author, has stolen a script from him.  Not true.  And
defames S!ri
and his conglomeration of plagiarized and pirated utilities will alter the hosts
file of
your PC to block access to it and other trusted anti malware sites and other
reputable web
sites.

Additionally he claims "Why use a virus to remove a virus".  There is NO virus
in
SmitFraudFix.  Nor does SmitFraudFix remove "viruses".  It does use a tool that
kills
processes in an effort to remove the malware SmitFraudFix targets.  SmitFraudFix
targets
non-viral malware.

Indeed, PCBUTTS1 uses a utility called PROCESS.EXE

SmitFraudFix is a legitimate anti-malware utility.  Just make sure you
download it from a legitimate site.  Also, note that because of the way it's
constructed other anti-malware programs may detect it as malware.  You may
have to add it to the exclusion list of your AV.
