SL*.tmp (What is this???)

Do you have a question? Post it now! No Registration Necessary.  Now with pictures!

Threaded View
ZoneAlarm continues to block this file and its's variants and I can't
find any info on it.  When it started, I didn't have MS Framework
installed on my PC so I don't think it has anything to do with that
app.

If you had followed through on all the responses, you would have
concluded that no one knows what these files are.

Google for "Process Explorer". You can use it to find what process is
using SL*.tmp to connect to the web.

As I tried to show him in *September*, it's Windows Update trying to
update the .NET Framework.  He probably needs to either uninstall the
.NET Framework or fix his install...

sorry for his luck(a format/clean install would have been a lot faster)
One would think that after 2 months he would have found a solution.

A clean install is not an option - I have over 150 apps on my machine.

So, they are pirated and you don't have actual CDs or installable files? How
would be prepared for full loss of the machine?

It's not what you think.  I have not had to reformat my machines for
over 10 years.  Having to start all over again would be a monumental
task.  Just think about all the upgrades and settings and usernames and
passwords, etc.

Sounds like you need to start planning ahead. I have disaster plan, including
a FileMaker database of 400-some apps, with the developer's URL, serial
number, purchase date & order number, a flag for "usual?" for if it's in my
usual applications, notes of whether it's an upgrade that needs the earlier
version first, and so on.

I remember your response in September - but have not found any evidence
to support it.  At the time, I didn't have .NET Framework installed. Do
you have any other sites I can visit that will show the same answer? No
offense meant - but I keep getting different variations of SL*.TMP and
am concerned about accepting them.

I'm not going to do any more of your homework for you.  Seek and ye
shall find...
BTW, .NET framework is installed with many apps, video adapters,
etc, etc.  I doubt you did not have .NET installed when you began to have
the problem ;)   Disable "BITS" and "Automatic Updates"(temporarily) in
Services and see if the issue is resolved.  Post your problem on the
Zone Alarm forum, as well.  It has been discussed there many times...

This issue can occur if the previous .NET Framework component is
damaged. Let's try to
remove the previous version of .NET Framework and reinstall all of
them.

Good luck. I hope this was helpful. I had to uninstall three Net
