i would agree that simply giving a filename does no good if getting
help from people.  however, this is a known malware file name and i
am convinced that it is malware.  

malwarebytes should do the trick for you.

I would agree that MBAM is the proper tool to use if this is koobface -
but if it turned out to be virut then MBAM is *not* the correct tool.
Identifying *which* malware is important IMO.

Koobface certainly appeared  more than once in the list of infected items.

What is a virut, I haven't come across this term before?

It is a fairly recent file infecting virus which has been associated
with the scareware rogue security programs. Any .exe program may have
been infected and MBAM doesn't detect true viruses.
