I have to side with the OP too.
Is malware-test.com run by rats who deserted a sinking ship because
they had inside information, or are they a bunch of disgruntled former
Trend Micro employees on a pay-back trip ? There doesn't seem to be
any other explanation why Trend Micro, usually rated fairly highly by
most testers, would come 13th in a field of 16 which includes some
notoriously poor performers.
They look like a bunch of self promoting amateurs who think they're
in the big leagues alongside av-comparatives.org, VirusBulletin, ICSA,
"Test Methodology" doesn't say how they sort good from bad samples.
It looks like they might be using the Antony Petrakis method - e.g. "If
Fortinet and AVG say it's a live virus, it's a live virus."
Don't bother with "sha1_for_antivirus_testing_200612.zip". It's 3MB of
wasted download time and drive space without a single recognizable
In fact, don't even bother looking at the website. It's just a pile of
fresh steaming doggy-doo too.
